I must say that 2015 was an amazing year for Hello! Project. In my little opinion, there was no songs that I hated or even really disliked, I really liked all the singles this year. Usually for me there’s always at least one song that I didn’t like but this year every single wins my heart over in some way. There has been 34 singles this year and though usually I would talk about all singles each year, this year I’m only going to talk about my top 10! It’s a bit of hassle to come up with what to say about each single sometimes and it usually takes me forever so I think I’m just gonna talk about my top ten from now on (*^^*)!
I’ll also be talking about my thoughts about each group and share my hopes for the year which will be at the bottom of this list! Now, let’s get this countdown going!
#10 – Yuugure wa Ameagari (Morning Musume ’15)
From the very first listen of Yuugure wa Ameagari I fell in love with the song. It’s a very beautiful spring-time feeling ballad with great vocals from the girls. The main singer’s are Mizuki, Riho, Masaki, and Sakura for this single which are the main centers these days, though nobody else really got any solo lines I still really love this song. Yuugure wa Ameagari kind of reminds me of Morning Musume ’14’s release Toki wo Koe Sora wo Koe, and I just loved that song!
#9 – Sukatto My Heart (Morning Musume ’15)
Sukatto My Heart was another Morning Musume ’15 song that came to like right away! I really love the disco theme of this song and I was glad to see Morning Musume doing this type of song again, a type that’s just fun and not too serious or anything like that. Since I find that this song has some similarity to Bruno Mars’ huge hit from earlier this year, Uptown Funk, I think that’s where Tsunku-san might have got the inspiration for writing this song for Morning Musume ’15 since it has a disco theme and has some pretty catchy lyrics. Though wherever he got the inspiration to write this song, it worked and I just ended up really loving Sukatto My Heart.
#8 – Otome no Gyakushuu (ANGERME)
I would have to say that Otome no Gyakushuu was definitely a new direction in song style for ANGERME, and they now tend to do at least one song that has a serious and haunting tone with each single they release. I really love the classical instrumental that this song starts off with, I also really love how they used Kana’s deep vocals for this song and it’s definitely a part I look forward to hearing the most, along with Rina’s “mitara” line.
#7 – GamushaLIFE (℃-ute )
I love how GamushaLIFE is about expressing gratitude and love for your friends. This is a one of a few Hello! Pro singles that I ended up loving more and more as the year went by, I think this song is a true master piece and ever so perfect for ℃-ute! I also really loved they involved ℃-ute’s former members initials on the graffiti backdrop that was made for the music video.
#6 – Ima Sugu Tobikomu Yuuki (Morning Musume ’15)
For me Ima Sugu Tobikomu Yuuki was another song that grew on me as time went by, when I first talked about this song on my blog I said that this song was my least favorite out of the year but now it’s like my most favorite and the song I listen to the most. I really liked the Maachan and Miki center, and I’m really hoping they keep pushing Maachan in the center since I think she’s quite capable.
#5 – Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi (Morning Musume ’15)
Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi is probably the only song that’s from later in the year to make it in my top 10! I really love how Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi sounds like the style of songs Morning Musume use to do in the past before they went in the EDM direction. While watching the MV I can totally picture the Platinum Era singing this song perfectly so I feel a little nostalgic when listening to this song. I think this song is just really beautiful, and a really nice way to send Riho off.
#4 – Dosukoi! Kenkyo ni Daitan (Kobushi Factory)
Besides Morning Musume ’15, ℃-ute, and ANGERME, Kobushi Factory is the only ones to have made in my top 10! Just listening to Dosukoi! Kenkyo ni Daitan really pumps me up and has really grown on my during the year! It’s such a perfect and strong song for Kobushi Factory to debut with. It really displays their vocals amazingly, everyone in Kobushi Factory has such strong and great vocal talent.
#3 – The Middle Management ~Josei Chuukan Kanrishoku~ (℃-ute)
What I really love the most about The Middle Management is the really cool EDM instrumental, the autotune they put on some members vocals, and the little bubbling effect they use during the dance break of the song. I just really love pretty much everything about this song!
#2 – Seishun Kozou ga Naiteiru (Morning Musume ’15)
I’m noticing that some fans don’t really have this song in their top of this year which surprised me a bit when I first notice but for me it’s my most favorite MM’15 song of the year! I catch myself singing this song quite a bit throughout the year, the cheering is just too catchy and I actually don’t mind the long pauses during some lines.
#1 – Taiki Bansei (ANGERME)
It just wouldn’t be right if I didn’t include Taiki Bansei in my top 10 singles of the year. I just really loved this song ever since it’s release back in February! It’s an extremely fun song that really pumps me up whenever I listen to it on my iTunes or watch it’s performance during H!P concerts! It’s definitely a game changer for ANGERME since it’s like the new Unchouten LOVE, and I’m guessing this song will be performed at almost every H!P and ANGERME concert they’ll have. I really love this song so I’m hoping I won’t get sick of it being performed all the time (._.)/!
Morning Musume ’15
For 2015 I hoped that Morning Musume ’15 would sell 100k-110k and ranking in the top five on the weekly Oricon charts and as of right now they did just that! With their highest selling single at 149k and their lowest at 108k, both of them ranking #2 on the weekly charts. I also hoped that losing Sayumi wouldn’t effect their popularity so much and generally speaking I don’t think it really did. In that sense I’m quite happy that this year was still very successful for Morning Musume.
I hoped that nobody would decide to graduate just yet but Sayashi Riho has graduated from Morning Musume ’15 on the 31st of December, to study English and more dance techniques abroad. It was pretty shocking to hear that the main center would graduate so soon and she’s like another huge piece of the current Morning Musume, so I’m just hoping that Morning Musume recovers well from this graduation as well.
With Riho’s graduation they’ll be 12 members so I’m kinda doubting that Morning Musume would get a new generation in the new year, they’ll just be too big of a group and I read somewhere that Tsunku-san didn’t really like when Morning Musume got to 16 members at one point. I hoping they’ll stay at 12 at least for the full year before someone announces their graduation. I’m really hoping that nobody would but since Riho’s announced her graduation, it’s like anybody can at this point.
For the new year, since they did really well this year I’m gonna set my standards for them a little higher. I’m hoping their 2016 singles will sell at least between 105k-130k in total, and I hope their singles will at least be in the top 4! They kind exceeded my expectations this year so I’m kinda expecting a lot from them in the new year. I feel like my love for Morning Musume is a bit low at the moment so I hope they have some hit song that would make them really pop out more to me.
I would have to say that ℃-ute really exceeded my expectations this year! I hoped they would sell at least 54k with each single and rank #4 and up on the Oricon charts, this year their singles sold 63k-73k in total with rankings of #3 and #2! ℃-ute had a really excellent year, they even got a new record for their highest selling single this year. “Arigatou ~Mugen no Yell~ / Arashi wo Okosunda Exciting Fight!” sold 73,018 in total which totally beats their previous highest selling single “Tokai no Hitorigurashi / Ai tte Zashin” which only sold a total of 67,748 back in 2013!
℃-ute’s concerts at Yokohama Arena and in Mexico were big successes from what I heard and I couldn’t be even more proud of ℃-ute! With that said, like with Morning Musume, I’m gonna set some higher goals that I’m really hoping they can reach in the new year. Single wise I hope they sell at least 60k-70k and with rankings in the top 3. It seems that each year ℃-ute gets more and more popular so I’m sure they could have another very successful year in 2016.
Also, I’m not sure if any of you guys have noticed but ℃-ute has finally got more of my attention this year and is actually like my second favorite group currently and I finally figured out my oshi’s in the group which is Mai and Airi, took me long enough though! Like five years or so (xox)/!! Gomen ne ℃-ute~
Well, for 2015 I hoped that ANGERME would become more popular with some great new songs and I couldn’t be even more right. Their first single of the year “Taiki Bansei” was a big hit everywhere! I hoped that they would sell at least 25k and rank in the top 5 on the Oricon charts. This year they sold 42k-48k in total with all singles ranking #2 on the charts! Unbelievably! I’m extremely proud of my ANGERME babies doing so well this year even though I had some little worries with the name change but they seem to be doing better than they ever did from when they were called S/mileage. With that realization, it’s kind of sad to say but it is true.. (._.)’!!
With popularity, we also had to face 1st generation member Fukuda Kanon’s graduation in November. I thought it was quite sad to see Kanon go already but she wants to start a new path in her life and though I have a bit of a nostalgic attachment to her, I just want her to be happy so all I can really do is wish her the very best with her new career!
This was another year where I didn’t really hope for a new member but they ended up getting one anyway. Kamikokuryo Moe! I don’t really know a whole lot about her just yet but I’m sure I’ll come to like her quite a bit since she is in my most favorite Hello! Project group. The other members seem to like her a lot already so I’m excited to see how they fit together as the new year begins.
Since ANGERME exceeded my expectations, I’m gonna up my hopes for them a bit as well. For sales I hope they reach between the 40k-45k mark with Oricon rankings at least in the top 4 spots! All their singles were all really great this year so I hope they continue this path and receive some really amazing singles in 2016!
I would have to say Juice=Juice did extremely well this year, though they only had one single released this year it ranked #1 on the Oricon charts selling 40k in total! For this year I hope they would they would sell at least 31k with each single with rankings at least in the top 4 places, they couldn’t have done any better this year! It’s a bit crazy that Juice=Juice ranked #1 on the Oricon charts first before ℃-ute and ANGERME, it’s just usually Morning Musume who reaches the top, but it was a very proud moment in Juice=Juice history.
For the new year I hope Juice=Juice sells at least 33k-36k with each single and rankings in the top 3 spots. They already did so well this year and to be honest I don’t really expect them to get another #1 in the new year, but I do hope they can keep up with the really great work! With their new drama starting soon and new single to be released in February, I hope they reach Nippon Budokan very soon!
Last year I didn’t really know what to expect from Country Girls since they were a reboot of an older group but I did hope they would sell somewhere in the 25k mark with ranking’s in the top 10. They only had two singles released this year but the lowest selling single sold 36k while their highest selling sold 51k in total, with ranking’s in the top 5! I’m pretty happy for Country Girls for their amazing comeback! All their singles seem to match their older image very well and I was very happy to hear that they sang their older songs as well. They even added some new members already, even though they lost their rising star Uta in June due to her parents not agreeing with her contract.
Country Girls has probably become the most cutest group in Hello! Pro! Each member is super adorable and all their songs were really cute too! I just can’t get over their cuteness!! I was extremely to see that one of my most favorite Kenshuusei got to debut in this group, Musubu is seriously the most cutest girl I’ve ever seen and now that she gets to debut in the cutest Hello! Pro group I couldn’t be happier!
For 2016, I hope Country Girls gets some more super adorable singles and maybe an album with updated versions of their older songs. I hope they sell between 30k-38k in total with rankings at least in the top 5!
Most of the Kenshuuseis that I was hoping for their debut this year were drafted into Kobushi Factory. Ayano, Rena, and Natsumi were three of the ten I hoped for to debut last year. I remember I was extremely happy to hear the formation of Kobushi Factory due to the fact that some of my most favorite Kenshuuseis were debuting, and debuting together. I also liked Sakurako and Rio quite a bit, and was fond of Minami, plus with the addition of Ayaka and Rei, I started to get really excited for this group!
They had two good indie singles and a solid triple-a debut single! This year they sold 47k with their debut single with a ranking of #3 on the weekly Oricon charts. They had a really strong debut so I’m hoping their next singles will be just as great! I hope their sales will be in the 30k-36k mark with rankings at least in the top 5 in the new year!
Since Kobushi Factory is named and formed in the memory of Berryz Koubou, I’m just hoping no one will decide to leave like in Berryz Koubou. I just hope Kobushi Factory stays as 8 for as long as possible.
Another new unit formed this year, Tsubaki Factory included two Kenshuusei members I also hoped to debut this year! Riko is my baby and I was so happy to hear that her and Kisora will be debuting together in this other factory group. I also like Yumeno quite a bit but the rest of the members were newer Kenshuusei members that I haven’t gotten too familiar with so I’m still kinda warming up to Risa, Ami, and Kiki.
They haven’t had their debut single just yet but hopefully they’ll get it in the new year. I liked their indie singles quite a bit this year so I hope they continue going in this music direction since I like it a lot and it seems to fit well with Tsubaki Factory’s image so far.
Even though Aika isnt technically a “soloist” but she has come back to the Up-Front scene and since she studied English in the states, she has become very good with English and has been doing quite a lot of promotion of how to get goods overseas and has been doing reports on Up-Fronts official Facebook page on almost every Hello! Project event along with other Up-Front artists events in English. She has been doing lots of work for the overseas fans and it’s been really great having an OG looking out for us like this! I just hope she continues her hard work!
As for Riho, since she’s just graduating from Morning Musume, after studying abroad I’m sure she’ll come back to Hello! Project. For the time being though, she’ll probably be somewhere overseas studying English. I wish her the very best wherever she ends up studying and hope she comes back soon!
Hello Pro Kenshuusei
Out of the 10 girls I hoped would debut this year, 6 of them are now in an official Hello! Pro group and have already had their debut single or are still waiting to get one. With only one of the girls leaving the Kenshuusei program, I wanted Saitou Kana to debut too but she sadly left the program earlier in the year.
I’m not really hoping for any newer groups to formed in the new year since we have quite a lot of groups now but if any group is to add new members the girl who I’m rooting for the most is Kaga Kaede! She’s very talented in singing and I really love her! As for some other Kenshuusei’s I’m hoping for their debut are Ichioka Reina, Inoue Hikaru, Yokogawa Yumei, Danbara Ruru, Onoda Saori, Hashimoto Nagisa, Ono Mizuho, Akiyama Mao, and Kanatsu Mizuki.
Though Hello Pro Kenshuusei has quite a few of their own original songs, it would be nice to see them get at least one new one.
Anyway! That is it for my single ranking and my hopes for Hello! Project in the new year! I hope you enjoyed reading this little countdown of mine and please free feel to tell me what you think! (*^^*)!!
